Every day, our transport choices influence our ecological footprint. The transport sector is one of the main emitters of greenhouse gases. In France, road transport accounts for around 80% of all transport energy consumption.
🚗 Internal combustion car vs. electric bicycle
In Alsace, Lorraine and Franche-Comté, the average distance between home and work is 22 km (national average: 18 km). (Source: Study carried out by IFOP for Alphabet France)
For a daily journey of 22 km :
- Internal combustion car: 218 g of CO₂ emitted per km, i.e. 4.79 kg for 22 km.
- Electrically assisted bicycle (VAE): 11 g of CO₂ emitted per km, or 240 g for 22 km .
Opting for more sustainable modes of travel, such as an electric-assist bicycle, can significantly reduce your CO₂ emissions by almost 95% compared with a combustion car. Over a working year (around 220 days), this represents a saving of more than 1 tonne of CO₂!

Based on reliable data from ADEME’s Base Carbone, this interactive tool allows you to:

- Visualise the environmental impact of your mobility choices.
